If someone had asked me up until now to make a list of my favourite artists that I’ve never actually seen, The Jellyman’s Daughter would have been close to the top.
Tonight, however, that all changed. Courtesy of the Midlands mecca of acoustic music The Big Comfy Bookshop I finally got to see the Edinburgh duo that I’ve been a fan of since I stumbled across their self-titled album on Bandcamp around five years ago. I also played the heck out of their second album ‘Dead Reckoning’; it’s a magnificent record and was one of my favourite albums of 2018.
So when I found out that Emily and Graham were starting an eight date UK tour at my absolute fave venue, I couldn’t miss the opportunity.
They were predictability brilliant. ‘I Hope’ and ‘Oh Boy’ from the second album were wonderful, as was their a capella version of Joni Mitchell’s ‘A Case Of You’ (co-incidentally my absolute favourite JM track). ‘Anna’ from the first album was fab, as was the title track from their forthcoming EP. Billie Eilish’s ‘Quiet When I’m Coming Home’ was an unexpected treat…
They’re in Cambridge, London, Edinburgh in the next few days. Just go see ’em and you’ll understand what I’m bangin’ on about.
