Rhiannon Giddens

I think my recent review of Cambridge Folk Festival 2018 for the Folk Radio site might be the most ‘read’ thing that I’ve ever written. I suspect that it’s in part due to this lead image of Rhiannon Giddens (or maybe I just like to think that).

Anyway, what’s interesting about this image is that she wasn’t even performing at the time…I took it during the soundcheck. All weekend that particular stage had been using these really strong coloured backlights, which in true diva-photographer fashion I was constantly moaning about. However during this soundcheck there were no lights on until they suddenly switched on that spot at the back. I was chatting to Rich Etteridge at the time when I spotted this beautiful light and had to interrupt him to grab a shot.

Which just goes to show, you should be ready and poised at all times for that one shot. Not that I take my own advice mind you…I was missing shots all weekend ‘cos I was too busy dickin’ around with exposure or gassing to people…

Yep, I use cookies. If you're into reading privacy policies, here's mine.
Ok, got it.
