Anyone doubting the quality and breadth of musical talent abound in Coventry right now, needed only to spend yesterday evening at the Criterion Theatre.
A capacity audience braved the stifling Summer heat to see Wes Finch, subject of a redwood photoshoot and interview earlier this year, and a number of his ‘muso’ colleagues put on a show that was a glorious example of, as Stylusboy put, the ‘magic’ that’s happening in Coventry right now…..
First up: Lucy Anne Sale
Wes makes an early appearance to share a joke with the evening’s compere
It was great to see Stylusboy and Rachel Grisedale again having last seen them at the Warwick Arts centre earlier this year. I never get tired of hearing their music – simple and spellbinding.
Steve (Stylusboy) explains his ‘pay what you want for my CD’ pricing scheme to the audience
It was the first time I’d seen Kel Elliot, great band and serious musicians. I’d highly recommend going to see them if you haven’t already…
Wes finally took the stage. The bloke is just just flippin’ cool….not content with making any old entrance, he had a brass ensemble supporting him for a rendition of ‘Southern Cross’, which is my favourite track from Wes’ Mayflower album, and sounds even better when he sings it live….
All in all made me proud to be from Coventry, and excited to see more music from all the folks that performed..
