Fiona Cox – Promo Shoot

Earlier this year I had the opportunity to photograph Fiona Cox playing live at Warwick Arts centre. Fiona creates beautiful acoustic melodies, where the story embedded in the lyrics is just as important as the music itself….

I mailed some of the photos from the show to Fiona, and a few months later we met up to do a promo shoot. Ms Cox is a smart lady (she’s finishing a doctorate in Film and Television), clearly talented and a pleasure to photograph…

I always enjoy talking to people who are passionate about what they do. And singer/songwriter Verity Pabla is definitely one of those people.

We’d arranged a photo-shoot last week to create some new promo images for Verity, and afterwards I got the chance to talk to her about her music. I found her to be a deep, open, and really engaging person to talk to. The interview time seemed to fly by…

Michael, Heidi and Oscar

Regular readers of the redwood blog will know that my favourite photographic subjects are musicians and families. So shooting a musician and their family would be my idea of a perfect assignment!

Well, that’s exactly what happened when Michael, one half of Nuneaton’s acoustic-rock duo Barricades Rise, contacted me about a family shoot. Michael was taking a short break from producing music because together with his wife Heidi, they’d been working on producing something else…a fantastic little fella called Oscar!

‘Specializing’ with This Modern Youth..

When photographing up-and-coming bands and artists, it’s always at the back of your mind: What if they become massive, and I’ve got the ‘early career’ photo-shoot in the bag?!

Soundchecking with Stylusboy: Warwick Arts Centre

When Steve Jones AKA ‘Stylusboy’ contacted me just after Christmas about his upcoming performance at the Studio Theatre, Warwick Arts centre, he mentioned that there’d probably be a few other photographers there.

‘Yep I’ll be there’ I said trying to remain enthusiastic. Whilst it’s always a privilege to be asked to photograph talented folks like Steve, the thought of jostling for photographic space only to get exactly the same images as the other ‘togs’ in attendance wasn’t getting my artistic juices flowing.

However a few days before the gig Stylusboy DM’d me on Twitter “If you’re happy to come down early I’d love some informal shots during sound check?”

‘Soundcheck’ I thought? An exclusive set of journalistic Stylusboy images? With no other camera people there? I’m in!!!!

Promo Pics and Vegan Pasta: An Afternoon with Wes Finch

Like most of the talented and creative people I get to meet in this line of work, it turns out folk/rock artist Wes Finch is an incredibly nice bloke.

Having been introduced to Wes by Stylusboy when I went to photograph them both performing at a house gig that Wes had put together for the launch of his new album – Mayflower – I really liked his music, and so I was excited when he contacted me a few weeks ago about working with him on some promo images.
